Joshua Roffman, MD

Dr. Roffman is a psychiatrist and neuroscientist who focuses on biological underpinnings of serious mental illlness (SMI).  A CDI alumnus (class of 2004), Dr. Roffman was supported by two five-year career development awards, including a K23 from NIMH, followed by a BRAINS R01 from NIMH and an MQ Fellows award. Dr. Roffman currently directs the Brain Genomics Lab at MGH, which seeks to identify early-life protective factors against SMI risk through developmental cohort studies, multi-modal brain imaging, and genomics. Dr. Roffman co-directs Mass General Neuroscience, a hospital-wide initiative that fules innovative treatment and prevention strategies through translational research. He also co-directs the MGH Division of Psychiatric Neuroimaging, is a founding director of the Translational Neuroscience Training for Clinicians T32 fellowship, co-directs the Introduction to Psychopathology course for second-year medical students in HST, and serves as Editor in Chief of the Harvard Review of Psychiatry. His research centers on identifying prenatal/early life protective factors that confer resilience against SMI risk in childhood and adolescence, bridging cohort studies with brain imaging, genomics, and other translational neuroscience approaches.  His mentees have gone on to grad school in genetics, psychology, and neuroscience; MD and MD-PhD programs; and psychiatry faculty positions.
